5: Roundtree
Roundtree is one of the best hidden gems in Johnson City, and you won’t find it on most home search websites. Roundtree is located just north of West Mountain View Road in North Johnson City. These beautiful homes are on spacious lots in an established neighborhood. This neighborhood is minutes away from the best shopping and restaurants that Johnson City has to offer, like Peoples Street and Hamilton Place.
Most importantly, Roundtree boasts one of the greatest views in all of Johnson City. If you’re looking for homes in the area, do yourself a favor and drive up to Roundtree Court, and look down on the hustle and bustle of North Johnson City at night. Roundtree really is a hidden gem on the hill.

4: The Gates of Highland Ridge
Better known as “Highland Ridge,” this neighborhood is a well-planned community tucked in the rolling hills of North Johnson City. This neighborhood boasts 5 miles of walking trails, two community pools, a clubhouse, tennis courts, and much more.

3: Towne Acres
Towne Acres is a hidden gem in the heart of Johnson City. This neighborhood is named after Towne Acres, the elementary school in the center of this quiet area. Not only is Towne Acres a great school, it has created a tightly-knit community of families on these quiet streets. Drive slowly through this area in the summer, and you will see kids playing basketball, families out for a walk, and other great characteristics of this family-friendly community.
Towne Acres is only minutes away from Johnson City’s best shopping and restaurants in North Johnson City and Roan Street. Even though Towne Acres is in the heart of Johnson City, it is an established, quiet neighborhood perfect for families.

2: Strawberry Fields
There are several upscale neighborhoods in Johnson City, but Strawberry Fields is one of the best hidden gems in North Johnson City. Strawberry Fields boasts beautiful, diverse homes, each with their own style and appeal. Large houses sit on the hill, overlooking Tennessee farmland. Other houses have large lots with beautiful backyards, perfect for kids or a night under the stars in our beautiful Tennessee summers.
Strawberry Fields is only minutes away from North Johnson City and Providence Academy, our area’s best private school (Okay, we’re a little biased. Colin’s kids go there.), but it feels totally secluded from the hustle and bustle of North State of Franklin Road and I-26.
1: Lake Ridge
If you are just driving around Johnson City looking for houses, you probably won’t stumble on Lake Ridge. This established neighborhood is named after the public elementary school in the area, Lake Ridge (obviously). This neighborhood is farther north than anything on this list, so it is farther away from the city center. But of course, it’s Johnson City. You are always less than fifteen minutes away from everything.
Lake Ridge is one of the best public elementary schools in our area, making this neighborhood ideal for families. The houses are on spacious lots with quiet roads. This neighborhood is also minutes away from Boone Lake and Winged Deer Park, one of our city’s best with miles of trails, athletic fields, playgrounds, and lakefront pavilions. You may never find a diamond in the rough like Lake Ridge. With its great school, beautiful houses, and surrounding area, Lake Ridge may be the best neighborhood that you’ve never heard of.
